There is a whole science of behavior modification, and one of the key principles is you really have to be ready to make a sustainable change.
A model called the ‘Transtheoretical Model’ ... includes the stages of change.
First you’re not even thinking about making a change, and then you’re thinking about it, then you’re getting ready, then you take action ... .
Prepare. Take stock of your current pattern of behavior. Assess your motivations.
Look ahead and think, ‘Let’s say I’m going to improve my diet ... . What’s going to come along that’s going to make it tough? Is it the foods I gave up that I love?’ Well then giving up foods that you love would be a bad strategy.
Inventory your assets and inventory the obstacles you’re likely to encounter.
