You have to do additional homework. Get a sense of what this is selling for on the Internet. Read product reviews.
You have to develop what I call a price consciousness. You have to know when to strike… Just because it’s advertised doesn’t mean it’s a good deal.
To me, the worst situation to be in is to HAVE to buy…
‘It is Friday, and I’m going to a wedding tomorrow and I promised I would get them whatever it is...’
To have to go out on that one day and be forced to buy, you’re gonna pay more than you had to.
So plan ahead; get a sense of the product you’re interested in, learn all you can about it, track the prices.

Heh - in a different spot here. For the past several years I’ve spent November and December making my kids special gifts just from Dad. I’ve built toys, made up RC car games, and written stories. It’s been fun - all the work really pays off when those presents are unwrapped last.
So the expectations are already running high - my daughter was ticking off the number of presents she was expecting and the “one just from Daddy” was last on her list.
The problem? While the ideas have been pretty easy in years past, I got nothing this year.
I didn’t realize what I was setting myself up for...
