Networking is a career advancement tool that you never stop working at, no matter how happy you are in your job, because there is no such thing as career security without a network.
You never know what’s going to happen at the company you’re working for, to your interests and life circumstances ... and you can’t wait until you need it to start building it ....
So, you can start with the people you already know in any area of your life; family, friends, neighbors, people you went to school with, people you’re connected to through your kids education, and, of course, people you work with, and people involved in things you’re interested in personally.
And among those people, you’ll find people you like, and you want to get to know everything you can about those people, so that you’re in a position to be helpful to them ....
Networking is really about being generous, and if you are consistently generous to people then when you are in need of their help the are likely to be generous to you.
