Tip:  Insist on driving your child to the first play date with a new friend

When you have a “gut” feeling ... you really need to go with it.

I always advise, first of all. when you’re dropping your child off at a play date, drop them off. If you haven’t met a parent before, don’t let them take the bus home with a friend.

Make sure you drive them, so you meet the parent, and very nicely ask, ‘are you going to be home the whole time or is there somebody else going to be watching?’.

You may even want to stay, just for a few minutes. Say that it takes your child a while to get accustomed to a new home ... .

You also need to know if they are going to be taking your child anywhere, and make sure that you leave a car seat ... or booster seat if they’re planning on taking your child anywhere.
