An eight character password, let’s say with just lower case letters, might take a couple of days for a hacker to compromise. But it would take a couple of centuries to compromise if you include some special characters in there ... .
Unfortunately ... software has been spread all over the Web so ... anybody with a reasonably up to date computer can run one of these applications and basically sic it on your computer.
