Tip:  Beware the “shopping list” mentality when it comes to dating

Find a safe public place and schedule a twenty minute coffee date, because there is a lot of reason to believe that people are able to make judgments relatively quickly about whether there is romantic potential.

And those judgments seem to have some amount of validity to them, and they’re based on more than just physical attractiveness ... .

I think the other implication here is people should probably get rid of the sort of ‘shopping list’ mentality that we ... take to our romantic lives.

We frequently have a list of deal breakers, and ... to some degree, I think those are reasonable ... . But I think except in extreme cases ... people should get rid of those sorts of shopping list approaches to romantic attraction, and instead meet people and see if there is a spark there.
