In an adult, the most common problem that I see with their ears has nothing to do with the ear itself.
The percentage of adults who I see ... come in complaining of their ears or ear pain, who really have an infection is maybe five percent.
Ninety five percent of adults in my practice who come in complaining of their ears have something to do with ... their jaws ....
People who chew gum, people who are under stress, who are clenching or grinding their teeth, people that like eating nuts or crunchy bread.
And so what happens is the jaw joint exists right around the ear, and so patients will think that it’s their ear which hurts, when in reality it’s their jaw that hurts.
