Tip:  Set aside fifteen minutes every day to communicate with your child

You’ve got to be sensitive to the fact that the child may be experiencing some disconnect between who they want to be and their success at achieving their personal goals ... .

Find out ... how you can communicate with the child; how you can offer advice and feedback. I would like to see parents spend fifteen, twenty minutes a day ... just ... negotiating the issues. Find out how you can accommodate to their side, and logically the fact that they have to respect your rules and responsibilities as an adult ... .

I like anything where the child knows there are absolutely clear expectations; the way you respond to people, the way you behave in public, the way you manage your own studying time and preparation for school. These are learned skills, so, optimistically, we can argue that they can be taught.
