Family Meetings

Parenting

Tip:  Hold regular family meetings starting when the kids are young

My wife and I taught parenting classes for twenty years, and so we started doing family meetings when our kids were young ... and we religiously did them almost every week.

Then, some years went by, and then made them maybe twice a month, once a month, then it became seasonal.

But we had to teach each other how to talk to each other, how to listen, how to negotiate, how to create ‘win-wins’.

Our kids needed to be able to trust ... that (if) there was something they didn’t like, or something that they wanted different, that they had a place and a process to ... use that worked.

And it does take some time and some energy ... but it’s obviously well worth the effort.
