You don’t want to spend the entire time talking to one person, so I usually say something like ‘I really have enjoyed talking with you, but I feel like I’ve just taken up all of your time ...
I know you’d like to talk to some of the other people here ... so I don’t want to monopolize all of your time’.
In that case, if it’s someone who doesn’t know everyone there, you can say, ‘Have you met so and so’, and then you introduce them to someone else ... .
After they’ve started their conversation you can excuse yourself and move on.
