Developing an upper respiratory tract infection is the most common way to develop a bacterial sinus infection.
Now, ‘What does a sinus infection mean to me?’.
A sinus infection means nasal obstruction, nasal congestion, discolored mucus, facial pressure. It may mean pain, but I see way too many people who all they have is facial pain; no congestion, no nasal discharge, no trouble breathing through their nose who are treated with antibiotics for a presumed sinus infection ... .
For me, as an ear, nose, and throat doctor, if I don’t hear ‘nasal blockage, nasal congestion, I have a cold and I’m blowing out yellow or green’, I’m really not thinking you’ve got a sinus infection.
